Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Data

Our data is sourced directly from the California Department of Education (CDE). We collect, analyze, and present fiscal, demographic, and student performance data from schools, districts, and county offices of education.

We update our database annually when new test scores and school performance data are released by the CDE, typically in the fall of each year.

We provide data from standardized tests administered in California public schools, including the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).

Yes, our comparison tool allows you to select multiple schools and generate a side-by-side report of their test scores and rankings.

Schools are ranked based on their overall performance on standardized tests. We consider factors such as average test scores, year-over-year improvement, and performance across different subject areas.

Understanding the Rankings

Our rankings take into account average test scores across all subjects, improvement in scores over time, and performance gaps between different student subgroups.

The rankings are updated annually when new test score data becomes available from the CDE.

Currently our website focuses  on public schools in California. Private school data is not included in our rankings or database.
